What do you know about your Mortgage Broker/Lender?

I like to recommend lenders and mortgage brokers that have a good "track record"  of with my clients, whether you are refinancing or buying a home. Some  buyers may already have a good experience with another lender, or may be curious about an Internet lender they have heard about.

In any case, you owe it to yourself to DO YOUR HOMEWORK! There is an official Oregon state department that deals with mortgage lender's/Broker's licensing, and investigates complaints. It is the Division of Finance and Corporate Securities (DFCS).

On their website, you will be able to see if your lender/broker has any open investigations, and if they do, you will be given a phone number to call for more information. (But note that if an investigation is ongoing, you may get only very basic information.) Also, there is a way to begin a complaint on-line, should you have the need.
